Genay L. Mills
Genay L. Mills is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and is the founder and primary attorney of Mills Legal Services. She practices business law, family law, personal injury, and criminal defense. Ms. Mills has represented clients charged with a range of offenses from traffic offenses, to child support and personal injury representation. Ms. Mills has advised clients at all stages of litigation including first appearances, bail hearings, plea negotiations, and trials. Ms. Mills is a skilled attorney who finds innovative ways to address the needs of her clients.
Ms. Mills received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Social Science, summa cum laude, from Florida State University. At Florida State University, Ms. Mills was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and the Golden Key Honor Society. After completing her studies at Florida State University, Ms. Mills attended Cornell Law School. There, she earned her Juris Doctor in 2009. At Cornell Law School, Ms. Mills participated in the Immigration Appellate Law and Advocacy Clinic, where she cultivated her burgeoning litigation skills.
During law school, Ms. Mills worked as a summer associate for Rogers Towers, P.A. in Jacksonville Florida and for Holland & Knight, LLP in Jacksonville Florida—two premier litigation firms in North Florida. Upon graduating from Cornell Law School, Ms. Mills was admitted to the Florida Bar and began practicing at Holland & Knight as an associate attorney in the litigation department. At Holland & Knight, Ms. Mills was able to hone her skills as an attorney. She represented various clients in commercial litigation, including contract dispute, financial lending, construction litigation, trusts and estates, probate matters, labor and employment matters, commercial foreclosures and business tort claims. Ms. Mills also provided in-house assistance to the legal department of the Wounded Warrior Project Inc.
Ms. Mills is very active in her community and takes a keen interest in protecting the rights of the underrepresented in Duval County and Jacksonville, Florida. She successfully represented a charter school in Jacksonville, Florida in contesting a recommendation of non-renewal from the Duval County Superintendent of Schools. Ms. Mills is also a co-founder of Social Sidebar, which aims to provide a networking opportunities for professional minorities in the Jacksonville area and, simultaneously, raise funds for noteworthy charities such as the Salvation Army, Knots4Kids, Jacksonville Urban League Head Start, Toys for Tots, and Project S.O.C.K. (Saving Our Community & Kids).
Ms. Mills is a member of the Florida Bar and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
